Child & Family Therapy
Working with Children
In my work with children, I focus primarily on the use of play and art in therapy, and integrate parenting and behavior strategies to facilitate and maintain change.
Often children can benefit from increasing their emotional understanding and regulation, and in my experience, this is one of the most common reasons families seek therapy.
I also work with children and families experiencing life transitions (divorce, school, or other changes), behavioural concerns, and relationship struggles (peer and family).
When helpful, I integrate Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) into therapy with children to help process and heal from traumatic events.
Working with Adolescents
I work with adolescents facing a wide range of concerns, including depression, anxiety, bullying, stress, and relationship difficulties (peer and family). I often use art in therapy with adolescents, as well as EMDR and resilience- and mindfulness-building.
Working with Parents
Working with parents is an important part of my work with children. In addition to helping children develop strategies to heal and cope, I provide parents with resources to help their child flourish. The strategies children learn need practice to become regular, and I work with children and their parents to plan for success.
Sometimes parents also need support in understanding how to manage child behaviours or emotions, and an approach that involves the whole family leads to the greatest success.
