EMDR (Trauma Therapy)

Many of the concerns that adult clients face stem from early experiences and the patterns they have developed to cope and protect themselves. I offer Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) to facilitate healing from past experiences (be they small and recurrent, or large and clearly impactful).

EMDR is an empirically supported approach for working through difficult experiences, and is gaining increasing attention in the therapy community.

Trauma later in life can impact clients as well, whether it is the loss of a loved one, an accident, an injury, or witnessing a terrible event. Our bodies and minds work to protect us in times of stress, and often maintain the protective strategies after the stressor has past, even though they may work against us when we are safe.

EMDR is an integrative approach to trauma treatment that acknowledges the connectedness of body, brain, and emotions, and seeks to connect our experiences in order to promote healing. It involves bilateral stimulation of the brain, usually through eye movements, and allows the client to guide the healing process.

Many people find EMDR enlightening and empowering. I provide EMDR therapy to children, adolescents, and adults. Because traumatic events tend to be more recent for children and adolescents, they often proceed more quickly through the process.
